Review: Nothing Important Happened Today

Nothing Important Happened Today Nothing Important Happened Today by Will Carver
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I usually write my reviews immediately after finishing a book, but for this ? Nope, I had to leave it while my brain could catch up. I’ve never read anything that’s had such a visceral reaction……

It is the story of suicide, that starts with 9, very different people, jumping off Chelsea bridge, with nooses round their necks…..each given a number, not a name…..what would make them do this? Who are The People of Choice?

Is this a cult?

Told from several perspectives, in a way that gives you an insight into the thoughts of, at times, depressive people, struggling in the day to day. Their inner thoughts and feelings of the world in general. The all too real comments about social media and the ‘fakery’ of it all is thought provoking to say the least.

There’s an anger to the narration and a despair at the world we have created for ourselves. Will Carver’s writing here is so disturbing and dark but oh so utterly compelling, I felt like one of the 32 people on the train, watching events but just couldn’t turn away…..

I can’t say anymore for fear of spoiling any part of this incredible story, but if you like your stories dark and gripping then this is a must, must read. In fact, I know I’m going to have to read this several times, it’s that good and I can’t get it out of my head.

Thank you to Anne Cater and Random Things Tours for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour, for the promotional materials and a free copy of the book. This is my honest, unbiased review.
