Review: The Peacock Bottle
The Peacock Bottle by Angela RigleyMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
This is historical fiction set in the 1800’s in the Lake District…
It covers two separate time periods, 1840 and 1893 and the history of the Wise family.
In 1893, Amelia and her Stepmother move to a new home after the death of her father. The house and garden have been neglected and need work and while clearing the garden, Amelia finds a perfume bottle…this then gives us flashbacks to history, why was the bottle buried? A story of family and secrets.
Angela Ridley has written a gentle tale, with some really descriptive writing giving nice well rounded characters and a sense of the atmosphere of the time. A well written, easy and enjoyable read….
