Review: Deathly Affair

#13 In the Geraldine Steel series and can easily be read as a stand-alone.

Geraldine is a Detective Sergeant in York and is investigating the death of a homeless man. At first the general consensus is why bother, it’s just a homeless man, but she is determined to treat this the same as any case. It’s a relevant topic, as in people’s attitudes to the many homeless on the streets these days and sometimes empathy seems a long forgotten thing.

However, when a second homeless man is found dead this becomes a serious case.

I can’t say any more about the plot as I would hate to spoil it, but I can say I think this is the best in the series so far. There’s a real sense of wrong in the chapters from a killers perspective, the unease is palpable. So well plotted, with strong female characters and Geraldine with her instinct for the truth and her dogged determination is a favourite. Twisty, dark and compelling. I can thoroughly recommend it.
