This is #4 in the Maggie Neville series, but I found it easy to read as a stand-alone, although you do miss out on some of the background, but at no detriment to this tale.

Maggie is now with the Met and she finds it difficult to adjust to this new regime….the lack of trust and respect. So when the opportunity arises to be a Family Liaison Officer (FLO) she jumps at it.

Dealing with the family, she starts to get emotionally involved, but the. Another woman goes missing and Maggie is now working to try and prevent another murder.

This is an impressive police procedural and I love the character of Maggie, she is committed and dogged in her determination to find the truth. A dark tale full of a creeping, underlying menace and the chapters from the unknown killers perspective are so creepy it will give you chills…utterly compelling.
